Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic
Puerto Plata, is both a Dominican province and the capital of the same province. The capital is known as San Felipe de Puerto Plata. A city of about 130,000 people, it is not only affordably priced but offers plenty of new and undiscovered territory in which to live and grow. The Caribbean’s only aerial tramway travels to the top of Pico Isabel de Torres, a 793 meter mountain in the center of the city and the 16th century fortifications give the city a solid historical ambience.
The province is literally buzzing with new developments and attractions. Just 10 minutes to the east is Playa Dorada with hotels and a stunning golf course and casinos. Cofresí, just to the west of Puerto Plata also features hotels and new residential communities. The centrally located international airport is about 20-minutes drive from the city and serves the entire region.
Just 15 minutes away, Maimón offers more terrific beaches. West, about an hour by car, Luperón and the La Isabela National Park give a rounded completeness to some of the Dominican Republic’s most precious countryside, seashore and mountains.
