Champoton, Campeche, Mexico
Champotón is the municipality where the world famous Campeche Playa Golf Spa & Resort has sprung up. It's also the small city that serves as the seat of the same municipality in the Mexican state of Campeche.
With a population of just 27,235, it's the third-largest community in the state after Campeche and Ciudad del Carmen, but it is expected to increase significantly with heavy resort construction slated for the next several years.
The area has been populated since at least the 10th century and is rich with culture and history. With 2 UNESCO World Heritage sites in the immediate area, San Francisco de Campeche, the capital City of the state, and the Ancient Maya City of Calakmul, Campeche. Together they put Champotón within easy reach of some the world's most important and beautiful places.
