Rosarito Beach, Mexico

Rosarito Beach lies between Tijuana and Ensenada, on the northern Pacific coast of Baja California, very near the border with the United States. Rosarito Beach is one of the primary tourist destinations for Americans, especially those from the San Diego and Los Angeles areas. It is the first true tourist destination south of Tijuana, and is much sought-after both for vacationers and for retirees. A beach town, it faces the Pacific Ocean, and so gets much stronger surf than towns on the Gulf of California. The town gets plenty of sun, little rain, and mild-to-warm weather in a generally desert environment.

As demand for real estate is extremely high this can mean considerably higher prices than other retirement areas in Mexico. Houses of about 1000 square feet with an ocean view may range between US$90,000k and $140,000, while those between 1600 and 2700 square feet can go from US$165,000 to $200 000. Exclusive condos tend to start around US$175,000 and rise up to $410,000. Oceanfront villas start at US$475 000, and penthouses at US$750,000. There are also new developments down the coast to Ensenada, where condos, villas and residential communities are being built.
